Star Trek Original Series: Character Studies

We didn't always get a lot of time with these characters, but there's always time now to revisit.

And Everything Collapses (PG-13)   -   I wrote most of this on Mother's Day cuz I was missing my mom, who died 15 years ago. I thought it would be interesting to explore how each of the TOS crew (and a few others) might have reacted to Kirk's death in Generations. I stuck to canon for this one as much as I could, so for once Chapel won't take center stage (she's fine with that LOL). (Short Story/5,100 words)

Asunder (R)   -   How Spock went to Gol stories are out there in mass; I've done some of them myself and thought the muse was done with that theme. But I had some insight recently into what might have driven Spock away, and the muse insisted I write it down.

Choices (PG)   -   I got to pondering just what happened to Saavik after we saw her for those brief moments on Vulcan in ST IV. Then I started to wonder what she thought of Valeris and the conspiracy in ST VI. And then I started to think about other things. And pretty soon the muse came calling. I hope you like the results. (Short Story/5,500 words)

Confessions of a Construct (PG)   -   Some characters should never be allowed access to the muse. (Flash/1,0000 words)

For the First Time in My Life, I Was Happy (R)   -   I am in debt to a reader for the suggestion to write a story with Leila Kalomi, which I had not done before. Said requestor was most unhappy with where this went. I'm super happy with it. I think it turned out to be balanced and canon-friendly. This is Kirk/Chapel, Spock/Chapel, and Spock/Leila (that's in alpha order, not necessarily how things end).

In Mine (PG)   -   She was the mother of Kirk's son, and we only saw her for a moment. What was Carol Marcus' life like before and after The Wrath of Khan? [This is one of my earliest long works. I made writing choices I wouldn't make now, but that's okay.] (Novelette/13,000 words)

It All Depends on Where You're Standing (R)   -   One of my fabulous betas, Harmony Bites, requested a Lori Ciani fic where she's not a villain. I loved that challenge and this is the result. I wanted to really dig into what this woman would have been like, what would have appealed to that Jim Kirk, at one of his darkest periods. Lori's not canon, so I picked and chose what I used of her fanon backstory. (Novelette/12,600 words)

Left Behind (R)   -   "You sit and watch him. This man you love. This man you betrayed. You sit and watch him and you say nothing." Chapel fic. This is dark.

Lessons (PG-13)   -   He conjured her up on a pleasure planet, but we never really knew her. So who was Ruth, anyway? (Short Story/2,500 words)

Mazes of a Nightmare (R)   -   Where does a nightmare end and reality begin? This is hurt-comfort, but much more than that too. My muse got ambitious with this one. If you like TOS, and Kirk, give it a try.

A Meeting of Minds (R)   -   This is for Kayci & she knows why. She challenged me to write a Vulcan I hadn't written before. We saw Sonak for a few minutes at the start of the first movie. He had a tragic end. But Kirk knew him enough to recommend him to Decker. Who was he? How did he come to be in Kirk's orbit's? To be on the ship, on that transporter pad? (Novelette/11,000 words)

A Mirror, Not a Window (R)   -   This Chapel's not nice. And she loves the hunt. This wasn't intended to be Mirror Universe, but if you're really determined to see it that way, I'm not going to say you can't.

Not All At Once (PG-13)   -   This is a companion piece to "Weeds," Rabble Rouser's award-winning Marla McGivers story but you don't need to read that first to get this, the aftermath of Marla's betrayal, from Khan's perspective. It's dark. (Short Story/2,000 words)

Solitary Confinement (PG)   -   TOS timeframe. Prompted by the question: "What would it be like for a lone human aboard a Vulcan ship?" This is an original character. (Short Story/3,300 words)

Tempest (R)   -   Some day I will get over my need to examine how people were feeling right after ST:TMP. But today is not that day. This is more a Kirk character study than some of my Kirk/Chapels, but all the players have a role.

Tendrils (PG-13)   -   So much of the movie Generations didn't make sense to me. The Nexus, how it worked, why it worked. And Antonia. Like there weren't enough women in Kirk's past to give him, they had to make one up for the timeframe pre WOK that we'd never ever heard of??? So how to make sense of it? I know: insert Q. (Short Story/3,800 words)
